    With over 21,000 acres of abundant pasture (6,816 deeded/14,432 state lease), the Chavez Mountain Ranch is considered one of the prime ranches in New Mexico due to its quality grassland as well as a multi-source (windmill, electric, and solar) pipelined water system. Originally part of the historic Otto Ranch, the Cimarron Rt of the Santa Fe Trail cuts through this vast property. The south end of the Ranch breaks into pinon/juniper canyons, providing valuable winter protection. During dry years, fall rains have promoted good grass growth, which when paired with a conservative grazing strategy, has resulted in excellent old grass stores. Due to a a mix of windmills, electric & solar wells, a 9,000 gal. storage tank, an extensive pipeline system, 2 creeks and a live spring, every pasture on the property has at least 2 sources of water.
